December 12th - 16th

Language Arts:

This week in language arts we will complete our lessons from the giving unit.  We will read Something from Nothing and write about a special memory.  We will focus on different activities around the Gingerbread man story.  We will make a picture plan and write our own story with a beginning, middle and end.  We will also revisit procedure writing when we write about “How to Make Hot Chocolate”.   Finally we will enjoy our hot chocolate when we watch the Polar Express movie on Friday in our pajamas. 

Math:

We will complete our unit on Comparing and Ordering.  We will focus on comparing length (shorter and longer), area (using non-standard units),  and temperature (hotter/colder).  We will have lots of hands-on activities to help the students make these connections for learning.

Social Studies:

We will complete our unit on holidays around the world.  We will locate the different continents on a world map and learn about at least one tradition from each continent.  At the end of the week, your child will bring home an activity to share with you. 

Classroom Needs:

*We will no longer be using Clorox wipes in our classroom with the children present.  Therefore, we are in need of items that are kid friendly to clean our desks.  An idea that was suggested was Baby Wipes, so if you would like to contribute some baby wipes we would LOVE it! J

*The children will need 20 brown paper bags with handles to hold all our goodies coming home on Friday. Whole Foods carries the bags with handles and they usually will donate them to schools.  Would someone be willing to get bags for us over the weekend?

** Polar Express Day: This is a pajama day for all 1st grade classes. Please let your child bring (or wear) pajamas to school on Friday, December 16th.
