Language Arts/Reading:
We will continue with our Giving Unit, which focuses on the importance of giving to others in special ways. This week we will be reading The Quilt Maker’s Gift, The Night Tree, and Something From Nothing. We will complete different writing activities to go with the books as well as some very special projects that will highlight the importance of giving back. For these next two weeks, we will continue our middle-of-year reading assessments. We will resume guided reading groups after our assessments have been completed.
During Writer’s Workshop, we will be focusing on creative writing. By the end of the week, be on the look out for the snowman story that your child has written.

Math:
In math, we will begin comparing and ordering whole numbers to 99, creating sets of tens and ones and ordering them using place value. We will also introduce and begin using the symbols for greater than, less than, and equal to.
Social Studies:
This week we will complete our unit on landforms and natural resources. We will also begin a new unit that continues with our theme of cultural diversity. This unit takes a look at holidays/traditions around the world. For this, we will need families to please donate empty cereal boxes (or boxes of similar size and shape). Each cereal box will be transformed into a personal suitcase that travels around the world with your child. Please send any extra boxes to share with others. If possible, please have these sent in by Wednesday, December 7th.
