First Week of School August 27 - 31, 2012

Dear families,

We are off to the start of a great year! It has been such fun getting to know your children, and I look forward to getting to know all of you more as the year progresses. We had a fantastic turn out for our "Meet the Teacher" last Friday. Most of the children had the opportunity to meat each other and become reacquainted with friends from last year. We've even made a lot more new friends already this week!

On that note, I would like to thank all of you who showed up and those who also volunteered to help out during the school year. Abigail Horsey's mom (Hanna) has generously offered to head up the volunteers for the year. You will be sent a monthly email with the jobs and the names of those who volunteered that month for each position. There are still a few slots open for the Tuesday Folders if anyone is interested in taking that on. It truly is a big help to have those ready to go each week!

I would also like to take a moment to make sure that all of you know that we have a peanut allergy in our classroom this year. Due to this, please do not pack nut snacks to be eaten in the classroom during snack time.If your child has peanut butter or nuts in his/her lunch, we can make sure that they are not sitting directly next to or across from our student with the allergy. Thank you for your consideration.

We have been reviewing school procedures and learning new ones together this week. I hope you have had the opportunity to stop in the hall and see our "Jitter Juice" graphs. The children predicted what would go into "Jitter Juice" and then were able to watch as the actual recipe was made. Of course, we all had to have a tiny sample. :) It was actually a lemon lime punch recipe. The children loved the tartness and the bubbles that popped in their mouths. Apparently it worked in taking our jitters away, as we all had smiles on our faces after our samples!

Also, you should be expecting a blue Tuesday Folder in your child's backpack today. Please read through all of the papers being careful to fill out those that need to be signed and returned. There is also a red Daily Folder that goes home with your child each day. This lets you know how he/she did during the day as far as following rules and procedures. Please take the time to initial the calendar each night, as this helps reinforce positive behavior in the classroom. We will cover more on this topic during open house night.

If there are any questions or concerns regarding your child, please do not hesitate to send an email. I will be happy to go over anything with you!

I hope you are all getting back into the swing of school days with out too much trouble. :)

Thank you for all you do!!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Leyva
