Dear families,
Can you believe that the time has come? The last week of school has arrived! This will be my last blog entry for the year, and the children are incredibly excited to be "2nd graders in one week"... Hah! Do you remember when you couldn't wait to be another year older? Those were the days!
Language Arts:
We will continue writing our personal narratives and write a letter to our second grade teachers, telling them why we are excited about second grade, what we want them to know about about us, our fears about being a second grader, and what hope to learn in second grade. I will be sending home a copy of this letter at the end of the week, while keeping the original for your child's second grade teacher. In Reading Workshop, we are working on reader’s theatre. The students are working very hard on reading and memorizing their lines, as well as designing their costumes and backdrops for their plays. All parents are welcome to attend our performances in our classroom on Thursday at 9:00am.
Math:
Our unit on probability is nearing an end, and we are moving right along with a review of math skills that have been taught throughout first grade.
Science/Social Studies:
We will continue our unit on timelines. We are currently recalling and recording events that have taken place during our 2011 - 2012 school year. Each child will choose five of his or her own favorite events that took place in order to complete a personal timeline of first grade.
IMPORTANT DATES AND REMINDERS:
May 24th - Reader’s Theatre Presentations at 9:00am - All Parents are welcome to attend!
May 25th - End of Year Class Party at Justin Lopato's home. Weather permitting, we will be walking a short distance to the Lopato's home in the late morning for a luau with lunch and water play, then returning to school by 1:45.
May 25th - Last Day of School!!
I would like to take a moment to thank each and every family this year, as each experience has enriched my own personal life in some way. Thank you for all of the support that you have shown throughout the year, whether that support was given by working with your children on homework and special assignments, reading with them at night, helping out in the classroom and computer lab, monitoring during lunch and lunch recess, donating supplies, or working on things behind the scenes and at home. As a whole group, you and your children have made this a fantastic year! I could not have asked for a more positive experience! I will be thinking of each and every one of you throughout the summer break! Be sure to come by my classroom next year to say hello.
Much love - Ms. Christofferson
